QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training available this spring

Purdue’s Office of the Dean of Students will continue to offer virtual opportunities for faculty, staff and students to attend QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training sessions this spring. QPR stands for question, persuade and refer, the three steps that can assist in suicide prevention.

Just as people trained in CPR and the Heimlich maneuver help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to questions, persuade and refer someone to help. During a QPR training session, instructors will present, discuss and role-play scenarios until participants feel comfortable with the material.

QPR-trained gatekeepers learn to recognize the warning signs of suicide, how to offer hope and how to get help and save a life. At the completion of the training, participants will receive a certificate.

All QPR courses will be conducted in person this spring unless health and safety protocols necessitate a change to a virtual format. Changes will be communicated to registered attendees in advance. All attendees are expected to abide by the Protect Purdue protocols in place at the time of the session.  The schedule for Purdue QPR Suicide Prevention Gatekeeper Training sessions is as follows.
