Future of Work Space Repurpose Grants awarded to multiple campus units

Nine proposals have been selected for funding in Purdue West Lafayette’s Space Repurpose Grants program. In August, the Purdue Future of Work Project Team invited vice provosts and deans to submit proposals for small-scale campus projects that repurpose space as a result of increased hybrid and remote work.

Submissions had to describe the space and its current purpose and propose a new use for the space, including needed modifications and furnishing. Each submission was required to provide the rationale for the proposed use and the value it would create. Selected proposals would receive up to $20,000 toward their project that could be matched by the unit.

The following proposals were approved and will be receiving grant funding:

Rawls Hall fourth floor and Lyles Corridor

Submitted by Logan Jordan, associate dean of administration, School of Management. Adds seating to the fourth floor of Rawls Hall and alters seating on the main floor Lyles Corridor in Rawls Hall to expand study spaces and increase capacity for students.

Krannert Building fourth floor

Submitted by Logan Jordan, associate dean of administration, School of Management. Repurposes the copy center on the fourth floor of Krannert Building to create a collaboration space for School of Management faculty and hoteling space, which is unassigned desk space that can be used by any staff member as it is available.

Mechanical Engineering Building

Submitted by Michael Logan, managing director of technical service, Mechanical Engineering. Creates four offices consisting of three to five hoteling spaces each with lockable storage in the Mechanical Engineering Building.

Stone Hall, Room 122

Submitted by Marion Underwood, dean, College of Health and Human Sciences; Margo Monteith, distinguished professor, Psychological Sciences; Mona Holdcraft, director of financial affairs, Health and Human Sciences. Converts Stone Hall's Room 122 to student collaboration and study space to foster inclusion and belonging and promote academic, personal and professional growth of HHS students with minoritized identities.

Beering Hall, Rooms 6104 and 6115

Submitted by Nancy Marchand-Martella, dean, College of Education. Installs video and necessary computer equipment in Beering Hall, rooms 6104 and 6115, to assist with hybrid and remote work meeting needs.

Beering Hall, Room 4178

Submitted by Wayne Wright, associate dean for research, graduate programs and faculty development and professor and Barbara I. Cook Chair of Literacy and Language. Transforms Room 4178 into an open, collaborative workspace that includes new computers, tablet armchairs, lockers and audio and visual equipment for hybrid meetings.

Beering Hall fourth, fifth and sixth floors

Submitted by Wilella Daniels Burgess, director, Evaluation and Learning Research Center. Creates technology-enabled staff hoteling space, small meeting and interview space and conference room space.

Purdue Counseling and Guidance Center (PCGC)

Submitted by Ayse Ciftci, head, Department of Educational Studies. Purchases and installs new laptops and Ethernet ports in all clinic rooms to allow for the continued provision of mental health services for students via telehealth options.

Beering Hall, Room 3299

Submitted by Jennifer Barce, assistant dean for teacher education, College of Education. Repurposes small conference room into two workstations for staff use, a whiteboard wall and flexible seating for hybrid work use.
