Spring 2022 service-learning fellowships awarded for Purdue-community partnerships

Purdue’s Office of Engagement has selected seven Purdue instructors for its spring 2022 Service-Learning Fellows program. This program fosters the development and institutionalization of service-learning courses and curricula, projects and scholarly pursuits at Purdue while strengthening collaborative efforts and outcomes in communities.

Throughout the spring semester, the fellows will work with service-learning staff and community partners to explore the nature of service-learning courses and partnerships at Purdue amid the ever-changing reality of the COVID-19 pandemic and systemic racial injustice. Together, participants will develop the skills and tools needed to deliver effective, mutually beneficial service-learning courses. Each fellow receives up to $3,000 to fund their project.

The spring 2022 Service-Learning Fellows are:

  • Melissa DeFrench, visiting clinical instructor, Department of English, Purdue West Lafayette.
  • Cézanne Elias, clinical assistant professor, Department of Human Development and Family Studies, Purdue West Lafayette.
  • Wanju Huang, clinical assistant professor, Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Purdue West Lafayette.
  • Bethany McGowan, associate professor, Purdue University Libraries and School of Information Studies, Purdue West Lafayette.
