Honors College seeking proposals for faculty research and creative mentorship grants

Proposals are now being accepted for the Honors College Faculty Research and Creative Mentorship grant program. The Honors College has grants of up to $10,000 available to faculty who wish to work with Honors College undergraduate assistants in research, scholarship and original creative work.

The Honors College research program connects faculty researchers and artists on the West Lafayette campus with undergraduates who are working toward completion of a scholarly project as a curricular requirement.

All proposals are welcome; however, projects of particular interest will have “crisis flexibility” in that they can continue in modified form regardless of pandemic or other disruptive events. New or ongoing research or creative project proposals that will engage Honors College students in the discovery process are welcome. All disciplines of research and creative activity are welcomed and encouraged. Interdisciplinary projects are prioritized. The Honors College enrolls more than 2,700 students from all disciplinary colleges.

Projects must be led by faculty (including research faculty and clinical faculty) or lecturers, who will be asked to serve as mentors for students’ Honors College scholarly projects, if appropriate. Staff or community partners are welcome to serve as co-principal investigators.

Proposals will be reviewed beginning Oct. 25 with a rolling acceptance thereafter. Priority will be given to projects in which students have a substantive role in creating new or generalizable knowledge. The Honors College will select five to 10 projects for academic year 2021-22 for grants to be released to PIs in January 2022. The Honors College will encourage the grant awardees to recruit students to the projects.

Interested faculty can learn more and submit proposals at the Honors College Faculty Research/Creative Mentorship Grants webpage.

Questions about the program may be directed to Kristina Bross, associate dean of research in the Honors College, at bross@purdue.edu.
