CoE to host Trailblazers in Engineering workshop; applications being accepted

Preparations are underway for the Trailblazers in Engineering (TBE) workshop, to be hosted virtually Oct. 19-22 by the College of Engineering.

TBE is aimed at individuals considering a career in engineering academia. The program’s workshops prepare future trailblazing faculty in engineering with a focus on preparing outstanding scholars who are committed to increasing the success of underrepresented communities of engineers. TBE fellows are selected not only for their outstanding scholarly achievements, but also for their potential impact in expanding representation and diversity in engineering.

Those accepted will gain insight into post-pandemic academic success, participate in panel discussions, and will receive a $500 scholarship, pending full participation in the workshop.

The fellows have the ability to network with leading trailblazing faculty in engineering, including engineering faculty, thought leaders, Purdue Engineering heads, and scientists who will present keynote speeches and talks throughout the program. There will be ample opportunities for attendees to receive advice on proposals, participate in a poster session to pitch research and teaching plans, and obtain feedback from would-be employers.

TBE’s participating program managers represent the National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, Air Force Office of Scientific Research, National Institutes of Health, and others.

Applicants are invited to apply through two programs, Black Trailblazers in Engineering (BTE) and Latinx Trailblazers in Engineering (LATinE). The application deadline is Sept. 24. The workshop is open to all PhD students/postdocs in engineering or related disciplines at United States research universities, regardless of race or national origin, who demonstrate a commitment to increasing opportunities for members of underrepresented minorities.
