Second week of April set aside to recognize student employees
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - The National Student Employment Association (NSEA) and Purdue’s Division of Financial Aid, along with universities across the country, encourage both campus and community employers to recognize their student employees during National Student Employment Week, April 12-18, a week set aside to acknowledge the importance of the student work experience.
“The benefits of working are usually much more than the need for a paycheck,” said David Reseigh, assistant director of outreach services in Purdue’s Division of Financial Aid. “As this strange pandemic-academic year winds down, it is extremely important for campus-community employers to recognize the initiative, dedication and important role their student employees played in their workplace this year.”
Purdue offers a variety of programs such as Federal Work-Study (FWS), co-operative education, and internship opportunities to bring student workers and employers together.
“Both campus employers and local nonprofit agencies can benefit from hiring FWS-eligible students, as the government subsidizes the student's wage, sometimes up to 100%, for some specific programs,” Reseigh said.
More information about the services offered to Purdue students and employers is available.
