Recipients named for Office of the Provost's 2021 Online Excellence Awards

The Office of the Provost has announced the recipients of the 2021 Online Excellence Awards.

The awards are intended to recognize professional accomplishment and to promote creative and effective approaches to learning delivered via online education media. The awards are accompanied by a certificate and a $2,500 cash payment.

The 2021 recipients are:

* Mark Mabrito, professor, English, Purdue University Northwest, received the Online Excellence in Course Design and Teaching (Credit) award for the course ENGL 43500 Writing for Digital Media.

* Christian Butzke, professor, Food Science, West Lafayette, and Yu-Ju Lin, senior instructional designer, Teaching and Learning Technologies, West Lafayette, received the Online Excellence in Course Design and Teaching (Non-Credit) award for the non-credit instance of the course FS 47000 Wine Appreciation.

* Natasha Watkins, clinical associate professor, Human Development and Family Studies, West Lafayette; Heather Fedesco, assistant director and senior lecturer, Human and Organizational Development, Vanderbilt University; and Mary Marshall, assistant professor, Gerontology, California State University, Long Beach, received the Online Excellence in the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning award for their publication “Student Perceptions and Performance in Fully Online Versus Flipped Diversity Courses: Is There Too Much Distance in Distance Learning?”

* Ali El Gamal, assistant professor, Electrical and Computer Engineering, West Lafayette, and Tuhin Dey, senior instructional designer, Teaching and Learning Technologies, West Lafayette, received the Online Excellence in Innovative Course Design and Use of Technology award for the course ECE 59500 Introduction to Deep Learning.
