Purdue invites campus to celebrate Inauguration Day 2021

Inauguration Day. A day of rituals and traditions that honors and recognizes the will of the people, having chosen their leader through free elections. A day focused on the peaceful transfer of power, revered as a hallmark of a truly free democracy. A day to reflect on the country's past and its future. Purdue wants you to be a part.

Please join us on Wednesday (Jan. 20) for "Inauguration Day 2021: Lessons of the Past, Informing Our Future," a series of events celebrating the day's historical, political and cultural significance. Told through the lens of guests, alumni, faculty and staff, panel discussions will focus on the grand pageantry, customs and logistics of Inauguration Day; President George H.W. Bush's graceful transition from the White House to private citizen; peaceful and orderly transitions of power and American statesmanship; and the contested elections of 1796, 1824, 1876 and 2000.

The day will conclude with a keynote by Jonathan Rauch, author and senior fellow in the Governance Studies program at the Brookings Institution, and a conversation with Rauch and President Mitch Daniels.
