Human Resources announces long-term care insurance through Mutual of Omaha
Human Resources announces a one-time open enrollment opportunity from Tuesday (Feb. 16) through March 12 for long-term care insurance (LTCI), a new voluntary benefit for eligible employees offered through Mutual of Omaha. Employees will receive the official enrollment email on Tuesday with more information on how to enroll in the program.
Enrollment for LTCI will take place directly with Mutual of Omaha and not through Benefitfocus, the employee benefits portal.
In addition, there will be several emails over the coming weeks regarding long-term care insurance. Emails will come from “purdue@ltcipartners.com.” It is safe to open these emails and any links provided within them. All email replies will go to a licensed LTCI enrollment counselor.
Why long-term care insurance?
Long-term care insurance is designed to help protect an individual's retirement portfolio, ease the burden of caregiving by loved ones and allow individuals to choose the setting in which they receive care. Health insurance, disability insurance and Medicare do not cover most expenses incurred from receiving long-term care services. Also, LTC isn’t only for the elderly. An accident or prolonged illness could mean the need for LTC services at any age.
Mutual of Omaha will offer several live webinars March 2-4 to help interested individuals learn more about the Long-Term Care Insurance Program available. Each session is approximately 25 minutes. Register online.
The new program will be offered to benefits-eligible employees, their spouse and family members. Eligible employees can apply with reduced underwriting, which means fewer health questions. All coverage is 100 percent portable once enrolled. Upon applying, direct payment with Mutual of Omaha will be set up.
Employees are asked to watch their email for more information on this new benefit. The enrollment deadline for LTCI is March 12. Enrollment for long-term care is available only during specified open enrollment periods and is not guaranteed to be offered each year.
