'Best Practices in Recruiting' training offered for hiring managers
Talent Acquisition in Human Resources is offering a four-part supervisor training series for hiring managers who want to improve their skills in making successful hires. Participants will learn best practices in developing diverse talent pools and conducting interviews, hear about what’s true in industry and have the opportunity to engage with and learn from other class members’ experiences.
The sessions are designed to build upon one another, so participants who sign up should plan to take part in all sessions. The first three sessions are each 75 minutes long. The final session is optional and will be scheduled as an individual 30-minute session.

Overview and Building a Talent Pool – 10-11:15 a.m. March 30
Attend this session to learn invaluable tips on building the talent pool, including developing a position description summary that captures the true skills needed. Learn how to attract candidates by promoting the role and develop networking skills to get the word out about the open position. This session also will include best practices for building diverse talent pools.
Reviewing Resumes – 9-10:15 a.m. April 13
The position has been posted, and now it’s time to review resumes. In this session, participants establish criteria to distinguish top-qualified candidates from a sea of resumes and identify candidates for the interview stage. They also will learn about additional screening methods to filter through resumes and narrow the pool.
The Interview – 1:30-3:15 p.m., April 28
Successful interviewing requires thinking ahead. Learn about interviewing tips and techniques as the session covers interview format, the development of questions to bring out the strengths and challenges of candidates, the creation a great candidate experience, reference checks and onboarding.
Workshop (optional) – This session gives participants the opportunity to use the skills and knowledge gained from the previous sessions. Class participants will conduct interviews and be assessed on style, technique and fact-finding ability. Participants also will receive constructive feedback on their interviewing skills and learn how they contribute to the candidate experience.
