Talent Sharing opportunities available to develop employees’ skills, help others

Professional development opportunities and the ability to help the Boilermaker community collide in the Purdue Together: Talent Sharing Program.

Unique opportunities are available for employees to work in different departments and apply their skills in new ways. The program now will allow employees to nominate themselves for a role they feel suited to; however, employees are reminded to discuss these opportunities with their supervisors beforehand.

“Talent Sharing can also support an employee’s career development goals,” says Brenda Coulson, director of talent acquisition in Human Resources. “Managers can review the many available postings to help support employees’ growth through on-the-job experience that has the added benefit of serving the campus community.”

The skills honed through participating in the program clearly benefit the area the employee is assisting, but that development lends itself to employees’ regular roles, as well, whether it’s in ideas to take back, talents that have been polished, potential future collaborations – or even all of the above.

“I found the Talent Sharing Program to be quite rewarding,” says Theresa Martin, an assessment program specialist for Purdue Polytechnic Institute sharing her time with the College of Engineering. “I worked with the College of Engineering on their online engineering program’s U.S. News & World Report annual survey. I got to do a deep dive into the survey results and conduct comparisons with predominantly the top five schools on the survey. I’ve learned quite a bit and hope to have future collaborations with the CoE as a result of our successful working relationship. It’s also given me insight and new ways to look at our own processes. It’s also given me ideas I might introduce to the Polytechnic.”

Many opportunities for talent sharing are available at the Purdue Together: Talent Sharing site. The University community is encouraged to continue to review these needs and look for ways to support each other.
