Landscape renovation project to begin Thursday near Class of 1939 Water Sculpture

A landscape renovation project for the area surrounding the Class of 1939 Water Sculpture, commonly referred to as the Purdue Mall fountain or Engineering Fountain, will begin Thursday (May 21).

The existing crabapple trees contracted a disease and are past their normal life cycle. As part of this project, the existing crabapple trees will be replaced with a new, more resilient variety.

In addition to replacing the trees, Grounds crews will update irrigation, planting beds and turf in the vicinity.

Sidewalks in the area may be closed on an as-needed basis. Pedestrians and bicyclists should obey posted signs and seek alternate routes.

The project is set to be complete by mid-June.

Questions may be directed to Phil Richey, Grounds supervisor, at 765-494-3089 or prichey@purdue.edu.
