Today: Active Learning Community of Practice meeting to focus on instruction using inclusive experiential practices
Jennifer Dobbs-Oates, clinical associate professor of human development and family studies, will facilitate an interactive exploration of the intersection of experiential education with diversity and inclusion during the first meeting of the Active Learning Community of Practice (ALCoP) at 3-4 p.m. today (Jan. 23) in Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 3090.
The session will address questions such as "What does it mean to practice experiential education in a truly inclusive way?" and "What are obstacles that might prevent all students from receiving the benefits of experiential education?"
Dobbs-Oates is nationally recognized for her work in experiential education in higher education. In 2019, she was named the National Society for Experiential Learning 2019 “Rising Leader” for her work at Purdue, including as co-director of the Human Development and Family Studies capstone internship program, chair of the department's undergraduate curriculum committee, and co-founder of ALCoP.
Instructors and staff interested in the session or learning more about ALCoP may register online. ALCoP welcomes all Purdue instructors with an interest in using active learning pedagogy.
