Purdue to host AEESP Distinguished Lecturer Conference; poster submissions sought

The Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) Distinguished Lecturer Conference will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Feb. 21 in Purdue Memorial Union and Stewart Center. The conference’s check-in will begin at 9 a.m.

The conference will bring together individuals in the field of environmental engineering to share their research findings through poster sessions and presentations. Interested faculty, postdoctoral researchers, graduate students and undergraduate students may submit a poster for presentation.

The event is free and open to the public, but registration is required. Those interested in submitting a poster and attending the conference can register here until Jan. 24. Those interested in attending the event and not presenting a poster can register here until Feb. 14.

Continuing education units (CEUs) will be offered for professional engineers and technical CEUs for wastewater treatment operators.   

The keynote speaker is Diane M. McKnight, professor in the Department of Civil, Environmental and Architectural Engineering at the University of Colorado Boulder. McKnight researches the coupling of hydrology and water quality in streams and lakes and their effects on aquatic ecosystems and water supplies. She is also the director of the Center for Water, Earth Science and Technology.

Her lecture is titled “Trouble Ahead, Trouble Behind: Acid Mine Drainage and Climate Change in the Rocky Mountains.” The talk will be at 2:30 p.m. in Stewart Center’s Fowler Hall. The lecture is free and open to the public. Registration to the conference is not required to attend the lecture.

The event is sponsored by Purdue’s Environmental and Ecological Engineering academic unit and Purdue’s Center for the Environment. The conference is co-hosted by Purdue University Northwest, Purdue University Fort Wayne, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Notre Dame, Bradley University, Illinois Institute of Technology, Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, University of Illinois at Chicago and IUPUI.
