Mental Health First Aid course coming to campus Jan. 28

Purdue Extension will host a Mental Health First Aid course from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Jan. 28 on the West Lafayette campus. Mental Health First Aid provides education about mental health issues including depression, anxiety, psychosis, suicidality and substance use, and offers participants tools to assist someone in distress to seek professional help. The course also raises awareness and challenges stigma associated with seeking care.

Participants learn skills for having conversations about mental health and supporting those who may need help. This may be of particular interest to faculty and staff looking for ways to better support students and colleagues. It may also help when navigating challenging circumstances taking place on campus, in one’s own life, or among friends and family.

Registration is required and the cost to attend is $20. Registration includes a Mental Health First Aid manual and lunch. Registration will be open until Jan. 21. The course is limited to 30 participants and spots will fill up quickly, so early registration is encouraged.
