Books and Coffee series to explore new, popular literary works

The Department of English and Purdue Student Union Board are sponsoring Books and Coffee, a series of talks aimed at exploring new and popular literary works.

The 70th annual Books and Coffee series will take place at 4-5 p.m. every Thursday in February. in Stewart Center, Room 302/306. Coffee and light refreshments will be served at 4-4:30 p.m., and the talks will take place from 4:30-4:55 p.m. Those who attend can enter a raffle drawing for a chance to win prizes from local merchants.

The series was launched in 1951 and includes talks by notable Purdue faculty on recent books that have made waves. All events are free and open to the public.

The event dates and descriptions are as follows:

* Feb. 6. Erin Moodie, assistant professor in the School of Languages and Cultures, will be speaking on Madeline Miller’s “Circe.”

* Feb. 13. Donald Platt, professor of English, will be speaking on Ross Gay’s “The Book of Delights.”

* Feb. 20. Marlo David, associate professor of English and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies, will be speaking on Toni Morrison’s “Sula.”

* Feb. 27. Brian Leung, professor of English and director of creative writing in the Department of English, will be speaking on Rebecca Makkai’s “The Great Believers.”
