Applications sought for Big Ten Academic Alliance Academic Leadership Program

Purdue faculty members are invited to apply for the 32nd year of the Big Ten Academic Alliance Academic Leadership Program. The deadline to apply is 5 p.m. March 9.

Nominees typically are faculty on Big Ten Academic Alliance campuses who have demonstrated exceptional ability and administrative promise and often those who have had some administrative experience. The program is specifically designed to help its participants meet the challenges of academic administration at major research universities. Women and underrepresented nominees are especially encouraged. The Big Ten Academic Alliance is an academic consortium of Big Ten universities.

Nominees for the upcoming program must submit electronically a complete curriculum vitae, an applicant letter of interest, and letter of support from one’s department head endorsed by the dean.

Applicants should apply by submitting nomination materials to Angie Schutz in the Office of the Provost at arschutz@purdue.edu. When submitting, title the document “faculty last name_ALP Nomination.”

Fellows are selected based on their demonstrated potential for and interest in university administration. Attention is given to the frequency of each college’s previous participation in the program. The 2020-21 fellows will be recommended to the provost by a panel of former Big Ten Academic Alliance fellows, and selected participants will be announced mid-April.

No more than five fellows from each of the member universities are chosen to participate in the program. Applicants should consider carefully the commitment to the program before applying. Applicants must be available to attend weekly meetings (two to three hours per month) at Purdue and to prepare for and attend three seminars held during the 2020-21 academic year, on the following dates:

  • Oct. 22-24, 2020 -- Seminar I at University of Wisconsin-Madison.
  • Feb. 18-20, 2021 -- Seminar II at Northwestern University.
  • April 8-10, 2021 -- Seminar III at Rutgers University-New Brunswick.

A roster of all of Purdue’s current and former Big Ten Academic Alliance ALP fellows and more information about the program can be found on the Big Ten Academic Alliance pages of the Office of the Provost website.
