Purdue to host author and medical historian Lindsey Fitzharris

Purdue will host Lindsey Fitzharris, author of “The Butchering Art: Joseph Lister’s Quest to Transform the Grisly World of Victorian Medicine,” at 7 p.m. Oct. 22 in the Gold and Black Gyms at the Córdova Recreational Sports Center.

Fitzharris will discuss her book on the brutal and bloody world of Victorian surgery from the speed and brute strength surgeons would use to how the surgeons would rarely wash their hands or instruments.

The event is free and open to public, but registration is required. Registration can be completed here.

Fitzharris will be available after the program for a book signing.

The event is co-sponsored by Purdue’s School of Nursing, Purdue’s College of Health and Human Sciences  and the IU School of Medicine-West Lafayette.
