CILMAR to host training for Beliefs, Events and Values Inventory administrators

In October, the Center for Intercultural Learning, Mentorship, Assessment and Research (CILMAR) will host a training seminar for BEVI administrators.

The BEVI, or Beliefs, Events, and Values Inventory, is a whole-person psychometric instrument often used to assess program or course learning outcomes such as intercultural competence, critical thinking skills and emotional resilience. Advantages of the instrument include strong validity and reliability statistics, a complex set of constructs, a robust automated reporting system, both formative and summative uses, and operationalizations of global identity and transformative learning.

Training consists of 12 hours spread over three days of theoretical and applied curriculum focusing on understanding the constructs measured by the instrument, learning best practices for assessment design and implementation and practicing analyzing and debriefing BEVI group data reports. Kris Acheson-Clair, director of CILMAR and a certified BEVI trainer, will facilitate the training.

The three-day seminar will take place:

  • Oct. 28 (M) -- 8 a.m.-noon, Knoy Hall, Room 256.
  • Oct. 30 (W) -- 8 a.m.-noon, Knoy Hall, Room 202.
  • Nov. 1 (F) -- 8 a.m.-noon, Knoy Hall, Room 202.

The registration deadline is 5 p.m. Oct. 21.

The cost for Purdue-affiliated faculty, staff and graduate students is $500. The cost for non-Purdue attendees is $750.

Purdue holds an institutional license for the BEVI, and once trained, Purdue-associated administrators are authorized to use the instrument for research and assessment purposes on campus without further per-administration fees. Previously trained BEVI administrators are welcome to attend the second day of training for a refresher on data analysis and administration website navigation at no cost.
