Economic Policy Luncheon to focus on effect of government policies on crime

The Purdue University Research Center in Economics will hold an Economic Policy Luncheon on Sept. 25 featuring a talk titled "Oh SNAP!: How Government Policies Can Make Crime Less Appealing."

The luncheon will feature Jillian Carr, assistant professor of economics at Purdue University, whose research focuses on crime, poverty, and law and economics. Carr will discuss aspects of SNAP, the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (formerly “Food Stamps”), including benefit distribution, which can  have substantial effects on the lives of recipients -- including their likelihood of being convicted of a crime.

The event includes lunch, a Q&A session and networking with business leaders, community members, elected officials and academics. The luncheon will take place at Purdue at 11:30 a.m. in the Third Floor Commons of Rawls Hall, 100 S. Grant St., West Lafayette. Parking is available in Grant Street Parking Garage, 120 S Grant St., and parking passes will be available for attendees.

Space is limited; RSVP by Sept. 20. For more information, email purce@purdue.edu or call 765-494-3782.
