Band Day, set for Saturday (Sept. 14), struts onto the calendar in recognition of how much energy and excitement of a home football day rises with the music — at Purdue, led by the “All-American” Marching Band. As in other areas, Purdue has been an innovator and leader in the world of marching bands and twirling. It’s a tradition fresh every time. Don’t Miss It!

SEPTEMBER 11

Purdue’s World Film Forum will open a three-Wednesday run of contemporary satires with “Welcome to Germany,” a playful 2016 look at the intersection of multiculturalism, family and public policy. Each film in the series (also Sept. 18 and 25) will begin at 7:30 p.m. with a brief introduction, followed by the screening and some discussion. West Lafayette Public Library, 208 W. Columbia St.

SEPTEMBER 12

“Toxic Masculinity: Consent, Silences and Institutional Complicity” will be an interactive panel discussion of patriarchy, sexual misconduct, images of women, leadership roles for women, etc. It is presented by the Black Cultural Center. 7 p.m. STEW, Fowler Hall. BCC

SEPTEMBER 14

Purdue’s "All-American" Marching Band will lead the way in a whole lot of music for Band Day. First, however, the American Music Repertory Ensemble will perform at a 5 p.m. tailgate at Slayter Center. AAMB will take the same stage at 6 p.m. for its pregame “Thrill on the Hill.” Kickoff will be at 7:30 p.m. vs. TCU, and then AAMB will lead high school bands in the halftime show, as well as providing postgame tunes. “A Conversation with Beth Ford” will feature the president and CEO of Land O’Lakes Inc. in an interview with Jayson Lusk, distinguished professor and head in the Department of Agricultural Economics. This event is part of the  Giant Leaps Series, part of Purdue's yearlong 150th year celebration. Event also is kickoff for the department’s centennial celebration. 9-10:30 a.m. STEW, Fowler Hall. “Chen Guangcheng: The Barefoot Lawyer” brings the famous blind lawyer and human rights advocate who managed to leave China in 2012 and now teaches, writes and advocates through his foundation. This event is part of the  Giant Leaps Series, part of Purdue's yearlong 150th year celebration. 7-8 p.m. Forney Hall, Room G140. Event

SEPTEMBER 19

Country music star Margo Price is coming with her fusion of Nashville, Memphis and Texas. 7:30 p.m. STEW, Loeb Playhouse. Tickets $24-$30. Pre-show discussion at 6:30 p.m. in PMU, West Faculty Lounge, led by McKenzie Isom, a PhD student in the Department of History. News release

SEPTEMBER 21

Global Fest in West Lafayette once again will get a boost from featured performances courtesy of Purdue Convocations. The main stage, in the area of Northwestern Avenue and Columbia Street, will have Kardemimmit (Finland) at 6 p.m., Frontera Bugalú (El Paso) at 7:30 p.m., and The Garifuna Collective (Central American music) at 9 p.m. Event
