Coaching and Resource Network available for assistant and associate professors

The Susan Bulkeley Center for Leadership Excellence in partnership with ADVANCE Purdue continues the Coaching and Resource Network (CRN) for assistant and associate professors (tenure-track/tenured/clinical). Started in spring 2019 as a pilot program, the main goal of the network is to coach and mentor faculty. The CRN is created to be outside the appeal and evaluative process or those concerned with that process. The members of the CRN will advise assistant and associate professors beyond disciplinary needs and requirements and develop a long-term ongoing relationship.

A member will discuss concerns and provide advice and advocate for the faculty mentee. To advocate means to support, believe in, sponsor and encourage. Members are expected to advise faculty mentees about navigating their lives on campus to enable them to be productive. The members will sort out and resolve minor issues.

CRN can provide the following benefits for assistant and associate professors:

  • Provide one-on-one mentoring and advising.
  • Build community with women assistants and associates campuswide.
  • Have the opportunity to explore a field of interest through exposure to a professional in that field.
  • Build a network of valuable professional connections.
  • Have an advocate on campus.
  • Have a coach/mentor outside their college who can facilitate candid conversations about concerns especially outside the unit and offer varying perspectives on issues and on navigating academic spaces.

The inaugural CRN is diverse. Faculty members from across disciplines/colleges have been invited to serve on the CRN. Any assistant or associate professor (tenure-track/tenured/clinical) at Purdue may select and work with a maximum of two CRN members. The CRN members are expected to meet regularly (once a month) with the assistant or associate professor and advise and advocate for them.

To view the list of CRN members and for more information, visit https://www.purdue.edu/butler/crn/index.html. Note that some members are already coaching two faculty members (maximum allowed). Several other members are still available. See the "Next Steps" page on the website to select one or two CRN members.
