College of Agriculture seminar series to highlight speakers on data science, digital agriculture

Purdue University’s College of Agriculture will host a semester-long seminar series on data science and digital agriculture.

The data science and digital agriculture seminar series will feature monthly speakers intended to expand thinking with regard to applications, methods and use of data in agriculture, food and natural resource systems.

All talks are on Fridays in Pfendler Hall, Deans Auditorium (Room 241). 

Scheduled seminars are:

* Jan. 25: Daniel Padrao, global chief operating officer at Solfintec, and Mark Stowers, senior vice president of operations and products at Inari. Both companies have recently relocated or are expanding to Discovery Park with products for digital agriculture and data science for agriculture. Solinftec has solutions in the realms of sensors, connectivity, and analytics regarding machine coordination and logistics. Inari is a seed foundry integrating field data and genetic diversity for performance enhancements such as improved nitrogen and water use efficiencies. 12:30-1:30 p.m.

* Feb. 22: Ranveer Chandra, principal researcher at Microsoft. Chandra will speak about Microsoft’s FarmBeats platform for digital agriculture and data streaming and the development of TV whitespace for data transmission. 10:30-11:30 a.m.

* March 22: Kumar Navulur, senior director of global business development at Digital Globe. Navulur has extensive experience with satellite imagery for a variety of applications. 10:30-11:30 a.m.

* April 19: Paul Miller, lead of product development at Agrible. Miller will speak to the tasks and values of entrepreneurship in the context of a data integration company working across the supply chain. 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

* May 24: Speaker and time to be determined.

In addition to the seminars, there will be a series of monthly lunchtime connections focused on community building and network development. The lunchtime connections will feature two or three Purdue speakers giving lightning talks followed by time for conversation and networking.

Lunchtime connections will take place on Fridays in Pfendler Hall, Deans Auditorium (Room 241).

Scheduled lunchtime connections are:

* Feb. 8 at 12:30-1:30 p.m.

* March 8 at 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

* April 12 at 12:30-1:30 p.m.

* May 10 at 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
