Campus community reminded to use subwalks during cold, winter weather

A network of subwalks exists on the West Lafayette campus to connect parking garages and high-use buildings. Faculty, staff, students and visitors are encouraged to use the underground walkways to travel during inclement weather and sustained cold temperatures. A map of the subwalks is available here.

“We encourage the campus community to use subwalks where available during the winter months, as an alternative to walking outside during cold and snowy weather conditions,” says Carol Shelby, senior director of environmental health and public safety. “With the forecasted cold temperatures this week, we also suggest that people walk through buildings when possible to limit their exposure to the outdoor elements.”

If walking outdoors is necessary, more information on minimizing slip and fall injuries is available in a recent Purdue Today article
