Take note of parking changes, reminders for new school year

With the initial phase of the License Plate Recognition system in place, several parking processes have been modified from previous years. Those who park on campus should be aware of the following related changes: 

Parking permits for 2017-18 expired Aug. 15

Drivers who would like to continue parking on campus need to have a valid 2018-19 permit linked to their vehicle, and new permits may be purchased online. In most cases, registered vehicles may use campus parking locations as soon as the permit is purchased, but parking in the Grant Street and Harrison Street parking garages will not be available immediately -- more information is provided below. Parking permit rates remain the same at $250 per year for an “A” permit or $100 per year for a “B” permit.

License plates serve as parking permits

No physical parking passes will be issued to drivers. However, those who purchase an “A” or “Reserve” permit will receive a “garage access card” at no additional cost to enter and exit the gated Grant Street and Harrison Street parking garages. Garage access cards will be sent automatically to eligible faculty or staff through campus mail within a few business days of the online permit purchase.

Garage access cards are not required to be displayed on windshields as parking permits previously were for parking enforcement. Instead, card holders will swipe the card to enter or leave the gated garages since license plate readers are not yet installed at these locations. This enhancement is planned for future implementation.

Pay-by-the-hour parking will remain available at the gated garages.

License plates must face the drive lane

In most cases, this means vehicles should not be backed into a parking space. Citations will be issued if a license plate is not visible to Purdue parking enforcement officers from the lane of travel in parking lots, garages or street parking where a permit is required.
