Smoking, vaping, e-cigarettes limited to designated areas

New and returning faculty, staff and students and all contractors, visitors and vendors should be aware of the University’s limited smoking policy. This policy, which was updated in July to add e-cigarette and vaping devices, is designed to be self-enforcing and strictly prohibits smoking of all forms on the West Lafayette campus, except in designated locations.

Smoking and vaping is not permitted on campus sidewalks or in any Purdue facility, structure or land including but not limited to the following:

* Academic and administrative buildings.

* Parking garages and lots.

* Residence halls.

* Athletic or entertainment venues.

* University vehicles.

Designated smoking locations are available in various areas across campus and are marked by appropriate signs and cigarette butt urns. Cigarette butts are not biodegradable and may create fire hazards for debris on the ground or in other receptacles, and they should be extinguished and disposed of only in the urns at any of the designated locations.

All members of the Purdue community are expected to comply with the limited smoking policy, and designated smoking locations and other related resources are available at www.purdue.edu/smokefree.
