Discovery Park, Integrative Data Science Initiative to host Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Information Science Workshop

Purdue's Discovery Park, in partnership with the Integrative Data Science Initiative, is hosting an Artificial Intelligence and Quantum Information Science Workshop for Purdue faculty and research staff. This free event will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 5 in Burton D. Morgan Center for Entrepreneurship, Room 121.

“The goal of this workshop is to identify the best and most appropriate opportunities for Purdue in AI and QIS coming out of the Department of Defense, Department of Energy and National Science Foundation,” says Tomás Díaz de la Rubia, chief scientist and executive director of Discovery Park.

In the annual research and development priority memo issued by the White House Office of Management and Budget and Office of Science and Technology Policy, the areas of AI, QIS and strategic computing were identified as vital to U.S. national security and economic competitiveness. Key research areas in AI include machine learning, autonomous systems, and applications at the human-technology frontier. Activities in QIS research should aim to develop the next-generation of QIS theory, devices and applications.

"Large levels of funding are going to show up at agencies such as DOD, DOE and NSF in fiscal year ’19 -- well beyond current levels,” Díaz de la Rubia says. “Purdue is well-positioned to team with these federal agencies, and this workshop will help our faculty strategically position themselves to have the highest probability of success."

The workshop will include a general informational session and include presentations by selected faculty on areas of specific relevance. It will also contain faculty-led breakout sessions focused around AI and QIS.

Seating for the workshop is limited. Register via Qualtrics by Aug. 29.
