The School of Aeronautics and Astronautics is hosting the first Amelia Earhart Summit on Oct. 1.

The daylong event, which is open to faculty, staff and students, will focus on empowering students in aerospace engineering by providing an opportunity to learn more about career paths in the industry and academia, and expand their professional network.

Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. in Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering, and the summit is capped with a banquet at 6:30 p.m. in Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom. It’s $10 to attend the banquet, and banquet attendees also will receive a free T-shirt. The rest of the event is free.

Registration for the event may be completed online. Those who would like to attend the banquet need to register by Friday (Sept. 21).

The speakers are Anna-Maria Rivas McGowan, senior engineer for complex systems design at NASA Langley; Tamaira Ross, a configuration design engineer at Blue Origin; Melba Crawford, associate dean of engineering for research and professor of agronomy, civil engineering and electrical and computer engineering at Purdue; and Sammie Morris, a professor and head of Purdue Archives and Special Collections.

Undergraduate and graduate students will present their research and gain feedback from experts in academia and the Industrial Advisory Council, network with professionals from the industry and government, learn about graduate school and academic careers, attend keynote talks scheduled throughout the day, and get involved in student organizations.

The summit is organized by the student organizations Purdue Women In Aerospace and AAE Graduate Women’s Gatherings in collaboration with the University of Michigan’s Women in Aeronautics and Astronautics.

The event is part of Purdue’s Giant Leaps Sesquicentennial Campaign.
