Trailblazer Award recipients named

Two associate professors have received Trailblazer Awards for mid-career excellence and impact in research and scholarship.

The Trailblazer Award was launched by the Provost's Office in January 2017 as an annual award for mid-career faculty members whose recent research, scholarship or creative work has made a significant impact in their disciplines in the College of Education, College of Liberal Arts, College of Health and Human Sciences or Purdue University Libraries.

The two Trailblazer Award recipients are:

Daniel Kelly, associate professor of philosophy in the College of Liberal Arts.

Kelly’s research interests lie at the intersection of the philosophy of mind, cognitive science and moral theory. His book, “Yuck! The Nature and Moral Significance of Disgust” investigates the character and evolution of disgust, with an emphasis on understanding the role this emotion has come to play in our social and moral lives.

Stacey Connaughton, associate professor of communication in the Brian Lamb School of Communication.

Connaughton is the director of the Purdue Peace Project, an organization that convenes groups of local citizens in fragile states where clearly identified situations threaten to lead to political violence, and to encourage and assist these citizens in their efforts to bring about peaceful solutions. The Purdue Peace Project has supported 16 projects in Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and El Salvador.

Recipients of the Purdue University Trailblazer Award are invited to attend the annual Faculty Awards Convocation on May 8, where they will receive a plaque of recognition and a monetary prize of $2,000.
