Picture Your Purdue showcasing campus life through faculty and student eyes, increasing home page traffic
The Picture Your Purdue campaign, which features photography from faculty and students, has increased traffic to the Purdue home page and improved social media involvement.
Picture Your Purdue accepts user-submitted photography from students, alumni, faculty, staff and others in the Purdue community. Each day, a new image is featured on the Purdue home page from one of the submissions. The photo campaign launched Aug. 16.
Picture Your Purdue has featured a new photo every day for the past 245 days. Those 245 images have been submitted by 135 unique people. As word of the campaign has spread, submissions have increased from more and more first-time people. According to Garrett Bingaman, senior multimedia and user experience designer in the Office of Marketing and Media, data shows an increase in home page traffic compared with last year as well as an increase in visits to many of the resources the redesign made more easily available, including Blackboard, OneCampus and more.
“Seeing different names and images daily has gotten the community and campus more involved and included,” Bingaman says. “This campaign is more about them and their experience here at Purdue, and the home page is a place for everyone to share that.”
The campaign has begun making use of challenges on social media, using the hashtag #PicturePurdue. Among them have been a Boiler Up spirit challenge and a Purdue pets challenge. The goal of the hashtag is to promote more images and positivity of Purdue and help get unique points of view. Picture Your Purdue plans to feature more images of classrooms, events, student life and research.
