Healthy Boiler first-quarter earned incentives have deposited; next payment end of July

Healthy Boiler logo

First-quarter Healthy Boiler incentive earnings deposited at the end of April into qualified employees' health savings accounts or health reimbursement accounts. First-quarter payment was for tasks completed Jan. 1-March 31.

As a reminder, Healthy Boiler incentive funds are deposited quarterly at the end of April, July (for tasks completed before June 30) and October (for tasks completed before Sept. 30). A report in aggregate is provided to Human Resources indicating how much each person should receive based on completed items. Please note: Human Resources will not receive any personal health information related to incentive completion.

Completion of the tasks listed below can be done in any order; however, payment for completed tasks must follow the outline below.

Task 1 must be completed to be paid for task 2, and tasks 1 and 2 must be completed before receiving funds for task 3.

1. Select a primary care provider. $50, employee or spouse only. $100, employee and spouse.

2. Complete annual physical and biometrics. $100, employee or spouse only. $200, employee and spouse.

3. Complete two pre-approved wellness activities. $100, employee or spouse only. $200, employee and spouse.

For example, if an employee ran a 5K in January, it will still count as an approved activity but he or she will not receive funds until tasks 1 and 2 also are completed. The same applies to task 2 and task 3. For example, an employee can run a 5K and attend a wellness education workshop in January (task 3) and then get an annual physical and submit biometrics in February (task 2), but the employee won’t receive the funds for those until having identified a primary care provider (task 1).

Through the Healthy Boiler Portal, employees will input their information in regard to the tasks above and can keep track of their progress. From the Earn tab in the top navigation of the portal, employees will have instructions on how to identify their primary care provider, download and subsequently upload the completed provider form needed for the biometrics screening, and log their wellness activities.

Healthy Boiler progress report example

At the bottom of the Earn Rewards page, each employee’s (or spouse’s) progress for 2018 is shown under “2018 Progress.” Employees will see a graph representing the number of points acquired to date and the three program tasks listed below it. Points are automatically earned for tracking a variety of physical activities based on the intensity and amount of time spent doing the activity. When a green check mark shows beside a respective task, that means the task was successfully recorded. The green check marks are the best indicator of an employee’s progress toward earning incentives. See the example at right.

As a reminder, to qualify for the incentive, the three tasks must be completed and logged into the wellness portal between Jan. and Sept. 30. Again, incentives are paid quarterly in April, July and October for task completed by March 31, June 30 and Sept. 30, respectively. The two pre-approved activities required also must be from two separate activity categories. The date of successful recording of an activity will determine the quarter in which the earned incentive pay will be received.

Healthy Boiler Wellness Program

In 2018, Purdue in partnership with the Center for Healthy Living on the West Lafayette campus introduced its Healthy Boiler Wellness Program to promote wellness within the University population. Healthy Boiler encourages employees to engage in their health and wellness by identifying a primary care provider, having an annual physical and biometrics screening and participating in wellness activities; offering benefits-eligible faculty and staff -- as well as spouses covered on a Purdue medical plan -- the opportunity to earn up to $250 (employee only participation) or $500 (employee plus spouse participation) in incentives to participate.
