Campus events begin today for Earth Week

Several activities and events are planned on the West Lafayette campus this week to celebrate Earth Day. All events are free of charge and open to the public unless noted.

Monday (April 23)

Janet McCabe, senior law fellow at the Environmental Law and Policy Center and law professor at Indiana University, will present a lecture titled “Rolling Back an Environmental Agenda: Will It Stick?” from 3:30 to 5 p.m. in the Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 3087. The lecture is presented by Purdue's Center for the Environment in Discovery Park.

Tuesday (April 24)

Three documentaries will be shown in Room 270 of the Krach Leadership Center throughout the evening. “Burning the Future: Coal in America” will be the first film at 5:30 p.m., followed by “Chasing Ice” about 6:30 p.m. and “A Feast Amid Famine: The World Food Paradox” at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments will be provided, and faculty, staff and students may come for one or all of the screenings. Student-led discussions will follow each film.

Thursday (April 26)

At this event, Purdue will receive its ninth consecutive Tree Campus USA award during a brief presentation. Pre-registered volunteers will then receive instructions and a demonstration of how to plant trees by Physical Facilities Grounds staff. Volunteer positions for this event have been filled.

Friday (April 27)

A “Bring Your Own Mug” event will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. outside the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall. Faculty, staff and students are invited to bring a reusable mug to receive complimentary coffee or hot chocolate. A selfie station will be set up for participants to pledge their support for Earth Week.

More information about Earth Week events is available on the Campus Master Planning and Sustainability website.
