College of Liberal Arts to celebrate third Love Liberal Arts week

The College of Liberal Arts will celebrate its third annual Love Liberal Arts week with a series of events next week (Feb. 12-16).

Among the various activities will be the one-year anniversary of the Liberal Arts Career Center, an offering of daily free hot chocolate, an opportunity to send free candy-grams to favorite liberal arts faculty and staff, a discussion with Emmy Award winner Carlos Watson, and a social media contest.

Events kick off with free hot chocolate open to the public from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall. Students also can write “candy-grams” to faculty members who helped them develop a passion for the liberal arts from 10 a.m. to noon Monday and Tuesday in the Beering Hall of Liberal Arts and Education lobby. Students will deliver the candy-grams to faculty on Wednesday during Valentine’s Day.

Carlos Watson, founder and CEO of OZY Media, will give a TED-style talk titled “The Future of Work” and will moderate a panel of young Purdue alumni. The event, which begins 6 p.m. Monday at Stewart Center's Fowler Hall, is free and open to the public.

Free hot chocolate continues 9-10 a.m. Tuesday at Pao Hall. Liberal arts students also are encouraged to pick up their free Love Liberal Arts T-shirt from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Wednesday in the Liberal Arts Career Center in Beering Hall, Room 1289 (while supplies last). Students can enter a social media contest by posting a photo of themselves wearing their shirt, a Love Liberal Arts pin or other Purdue gear with the hashtag #LoveLiberalArts.

The Liberal Arts Career Center will celebrate its one-year anniversary with free cupcakes open to the public from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday. Free hot chocolate will continue Wednesday through Friday at a variety of times in Pao, Beering and Class of 1950 halls. At 10 a.m.-noon Thursday and 1-3 p.m. Friday, students can receive free headshots in Beering Hall, Room 1284.

All events are free. More information is available at https://www.cla.purdue.edu/loveliberalarts/index.html.
