CIE to sponsor workshops on inclusive teaching

The Center for Instructional Excellence invites Purdue's instructors, staff and graduate students for two workshops about inclusive teaching. In these sessions, participants will discuss and reflect on how to incorporate concepts from recent scholarship on teaching to create inclusive and welcoming environments for all students.

Wednesday (March 21) -- Teaching and Learning Toward Diversity
3-4:30 p.m. Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 1087
As we make our classrooms a space where we include diversity from many angles, we need to develop strategies for understanding our own implicit biases. In this workshop, we will explore ways to understand our students and ourselves. Our goal is to empower students within our learning environment so that they become partners, rather than just receivers of information.

March 28 (W) -- Inclusive Pedagogy and Environments
3-4:30 p.m. Wilmeth Active Learning Center, Room 1087
How do we make our classroom a space where students feel empowered to learn? In this workshop we will focus on structuring class time in ways that move from filling students with knowledge to providing tools for critical engagement and respectful dialogue. Then, when we will consider how to ensure that this empowers all students, and how we respond and adjust when our plans take paths we do not expect.

Registration is available online for both workshops. For more information, contact Dan Guberman at dguberma@purdue.edu.
