All-time low employee injury rate on West Lafayette campus recorded in 2017

The number of injuries per 100 employees, or the employee injury rate, reached an all-time low of 2.21 on the West Lafayette campus in 2017.

While injury rate has decreased for three consecutive years, it has seen a downward trend over the past 13 years.

The injury rate is calculated based on data collected in the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s 300 log -- an OSHA-required annual record of employee injuries and illnesses that occurs throughout the calendar year -- and employee hours worked.

Purdue’s Radiological and Environmental Management department maintains the log. The information is used to determine injury trends so programming and training can be implemented with a goal of decreasing future injuries. Year-to-year progress is tracked, and benchmarking with other universities is also done with the available data.

The summary for West Lafayette campus will be posted on the bulletin board at REM offices in Hampton Hall, Room B173, from Feb. 1 to April 30 and is also available on the REM website through log-in with career account username and password. Department-specific data is available upon request from REM.
