Discovery Park Undergraduate Research Internship program accepting proposals

This spring, Discovery Park is expanding its Undergraduate Research Internship Program for undergraduate researchers. Building on Discovery Park’s strategic themes -- global health, global sustainability and global security -- the program will bring together select groups of undergraduates, graduate mentors and faculty.

The internship program will bring together small teams of undergraduate students and mentors to work together on a consistent basis to produce more profound research than individual students can achieve on their own. The program will provide a basis for further collaboration among faculty in pursuing ambitious projects with potential to solve major challenges at a global scale. The program seeks to foster interdisciplinary research across campus and will bring together students and faculty from distinct academic disciplines.

Interested Purdue West Lafayette faculty should submit a project proposal through the online system. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 30. The review committee will evaluate the proposals and select final projects by Dec. 8 for spring 2018 projects.

Students may submit applications for up to three projects from Dec. 9 to Dec. 20. All eligible student applications will be forwarded to faculty project supervisors for review and final selection, which are due by Jan. 8. Each participating student will earn a $1,000 fall fellowship. The program will contribute the fellowship amount in full, with no faculty cost sharing required.

The program was developed through a special committee composed of Dorothy Teegarden (College of Health and Human Sciences), Carrie Berger (Purdue Polytechnic Institute) and Kristina Bross (Purdue Honors College).
