Child Wellness Day aiming to help children of graduate students

The Purdue Graduate Student Government and School of Nursing have come together to offer a Child Wellness Day on Oct. 27 for the children of Purdue graduate students. Children can receive medical exams and immunizations, and their parents can learn about child health and safety education.

Child Wellness Day will take place at 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Nursing Center for Family Health in Lyles-Porter Hall. Services that will be provided by students in several Purdue programs at no cost include:

* Physical exams, hemoglobin and lead screenings, immunizations and health and safety education will be provided by undergraduate and graduate nursing students.

* Nutrition screenings and education will be offered by nutrition science students.

* Hearing screenings will be provided by speech, language, and hearing sciences students at 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

* Information about pediatric medication will be provided by pharmacy students.

Parents should bring their child’s insurance card, if any, and vaccination record. Parents can register their children for Child Wellness Day online. This link may be only visible to eligible users once they have logged in.

Free parking is available for the first 60 participants in the Harrison Street Parking Garage, which is adjacent to Lyles-Porter Hall. These individuals will receive complimentary “swipe passes” at checkout to use when exiting the garage. Also, transportation between Purdue Village Community Center and Lyles-Porter Hall will be available:

* The PVCC will provide a van with pickup at PVCC and Lyles-Porter Hall each half-hour. Users will need to provide their own car seats.

* The city bus picks up from the PVCC and drops off close to Lyles-Porter Hall.

Child Wellness Day is sponsored by North Central Nursing Clinics, Purdue School of Nursing, Tippecanoe County Health Department, and Purdue Graduate Student Government. For questions, contact Jennifer Coddington at jsundell@purdue.edu or Liz O’Neil at oneile@purdue.edu.
