Reif named director of Purdue Memorial Union

Zane Reif, senior director of the University Union at the University of North Texas, will become the sixth director in the storied history of Purdue Memorial Union in September.

In seven years at the University of North Texas, Reif (pronounced reef) spearheaded the university’s $137 million Union Master Plan renovation and expansion and served on numerous committees for the campus and the city of Denton. He previously worked in student unions or student activities at Texas Tech University, the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and the University of Texas at El Paso.

Reif earned his BS in business administration and MBA in accounting from Colorado State University-Pueblo; his MS in student affairs in higher education from Colorado State University; and his doctorate of philosophy in higher education administration from Texas Tech.

“Dr. Reif brings a wide-ranging set of skills and experience to lead us into the next great chapter of the PMU,” says Todd Wetzel, assistant vice provost for student life. Wetzel has served as acting PMU director since the retirement of former director Bob Mindrum at the end of 2016.

Wetzel announced the hire this week and thanked Barb Frazee, assistant to the vice provost for student life and executive director of University Residences, for chairing the search committee, as well as the committee members and everyone who participated in candidate presentations and evaluations.

Reif’s tenure as PMU director will begin Sept. 15.
