Purdue Women's Club to hold annual Fall Luncheon and Interest Group Fair

The Purdue Women's Club will highlight its wide-ranging programs and learn about Purdue's treasured archival collection on Sept. 27 during its annual Fall Luncheon and Interest Group Fair.

The Fall Luncheon will begin at noon in the Purdue Memorial Union's North Ballroom. Sammie L. Morris, university archivist and director of the Virginia Kelly Karnes Archive and Special Collections Research Center at Purdue, will speak about Purdue's archives, how they are used, current and future plans for growth, and how the collections support research teaching and learning, as well as the preservation of women's history.

Morris has a Master of Library and Information Science degree in archival enterprise from the University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the Louisiana Scholars' College at Northwestern State University. Morris is a member of the Academy of Certified Archivists and has held leadership positions in the Society of American Archivists, the Midwest Archives Conference, and is a past president of the Society of Indiana Archivists. Her book, "Teaching with Archives," was published by the Society of American Archivists. She is an alumna of the Archives Leadership Institute and previously served on the Indiana State Historical Records Advisory Board.

Before the luncheon, the Interest Group Fair will begin at 11 a.m. in the adjacent South Ballroom. PWC, a social and philanthropic organization with more than 550 members, has over 40 interest groups with focuses on friendship, sharing and learning. Programming includes everything from cooking to gaming to hiking. The club also actively supports the Span Plan scholarships for nontraditional students at Purdue.

The cost for the luncheon is $20. Registration forms can be found at www.purduewomensclub.org/luncheons and must be postmarked by Friday (Sept. 15). Payment also may be made online until Sept. 20. Membership is not required to attend; guests are welcome. Annual membership for PWC is $25 for new members. There is no cost to attend the Interest Group Fair.
