Glee club to perform in annual 'First Nighter' concert
Purdue's world-renowned Purdue Varsity Glee Club will welcome students back to campus at the annual "First Nighter" concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday (Aug. 25) in Elliott Hall of Music. Sponsored by Purdue Musical Organizations, the First Nighter concert is a free performance and open to the public. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
For more than 120 years, the Purdue Varsity Glee Club has represented the University on campus, throughout the state of Indiana, across the country and around the world. This past spring, the all-male vocal ensemble embarked on a two-week international performance tour of Poland and the Baltic states. The glee club has performed at six presidential inaugurations and on national stages including the Crystal Cathedral, the Lincoln Center, and Carnegie Hall.
The ensemble has worked with some of the brightest stars of the screen and stage including Ed Sullivan, Skitch Henderson, Marvin Hamlisch and Garrison Keillor. The glee club is directed by William Griffel, who is assisted by Scott Hines, and is composed of 73 students studying a variety of majors from engineering to education and hailing from California to Maryland.
Purdue Musical Organizations, directed by Griffel, offers six choral ensembles and one handbell choir. PMO considers its ensembles to be ambassadors of goodwill on campus, across the country and around the world.
