On Monday (April 10), Purdue police chief John Cox and West Lafayette police chief Jason Dombkowski were part of an event at Purdue police headquarters to honor dispatchers during Public Safety Telecommunications Week.

Purdue houses a joint dispatch center for University and city emergency services dispatchers.

Public Safety Telecommunications Week has been recognized nationally since 1991 in recognition of those who are a critical first step in getting needed emergency services to the public.

“These men and women are often the public’s first point of contact,” Cox says. “They not only play a key role in getting aid where it needs to be, but also frequently give important lifesaving advice to callers to help them deal with a stressful situation. They are truly the front lines of public safety.”
