Experts in varied fields to discuss Dakota Access Pipeline in ESE Keystone event

The technical and legal issues behind a long-running news story will get attention Tuesday (April 11) during "Understanding Standing Rock: An Interdisciplinary Discussion on the Dakota Access Pipeline," presented by Purdue's Ecological Sciences and Engineering Interdisciplinary Graduate Program.

As the fourth event in ESE's annual Keystone Series, this occasion will bring together five panelists with different areas of expertise relevant to the oil pipeline plan and objections to it, which brought thousands of protesters to Standing Rock, North Dakota, in recent months.

ESE's event will be at 6 p.m. in Pfendler Hall, Deans Auditorium (Room 241). It is free and open to the public, but an RSVP is recommended to ensure accommodations. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. and arrival then may help in getting a good seat. For program details and an RSVP link, click here.

The program will open with a welcome from Linda Lee, ESE program director and professor and associate head in the Department of Agronomy. The session moderator will be Douglas E. Pruim, a third-year doctoral candidate in interpersonal communication in the Brian Lamb School of Communication at Purdue. The five panelists:

* Chris Andronicos, associate professor, Department of Earth, Atmospheric and Planetary Sciences. Purdue. Structural geologist.
