Horne receives Distinguished Service Award from the College Board
Pam Horne, vice provost for enrollment management, received the Distinguished Service Award from the College Board during the Midwestern Regional Forum on Feb. 26. President Mitch Daniels, was a keynote speaker at the Forum, and was present when she received the honor. Director of Admissions Mitch Warren read Horne’s citation and he and College board Regional Vice President Greg Walker presented the award.
This award recognizes an individual who has made great contributions to education in the Midwestern Region. The recipient has demonstrated enduring and distinguished service to American education, students and the College Board. The person also is an innovator and leader in their educational field, a forceful spokesperson for important educational and societal goals, and someone who has reached beyond their professional area to promote educational ideals.
Horne was nominated by Jackie Acosta, educational manager at the College Board.
Horne came to Purdue in 2006 from Michigan State University.
She helped create the Purdue Promise program, which is nationally recognized for supporting populations of students who are historically at risk on college campuses. It is designed to help students succeed financially, academically and socially. Its main goals are to graduate scholars on time, debt-free, with success rates exceeding the Purdue undergraduate population and the statewide 21st Century Scholars population. She has also led the University to a record number of applications for admission and met or exceeded enrollment goals for the past ten years. Purdue’s enrollment was at an all-time high in 2016 and record retention and graduation rates have also occurred in recent years. Horne has served the Midwestern region of the College Board as its Council Chair and its regionally-elected trustee.
"Over the course of her career she has been active in state education issues regarding the transition from secondary to postsecondary education," Acosta wrote in the nomination material. "There is no question that Pam is passionate about higher education and access to it for all."
Horne will retire from Purdue in June.
