Exemplary community partner award nominations invited
Purdue will recognize a community organization with an annual award to be presented in early 2017.
The Dr. JoAnn L. Miller Exemplary Community Partner Award, which carries a $1,000 cash prize, showcases the University’s appreciation of agencies in Greater Lafayette that contribute to the growth of students by providing volunteer and educational opportunities, according to Julie Griffith, vice president for public affairs.
Faculty, students and staff are asked to nominate nonprofit agencies, schools or governmental units that have demonstrated excellence in creating and sustaining opportunities for engaging Purdue students in volunteerism or service-learning.
A nomination letter, not to exceed two pages, should include:
* Description of benefits to the organization and the people it serves derived from engaging Purdue students in the organization’s work.
* Types of activities in which students engage and a description of how that engagement benefits the students’ education.
The nomination must also include a written statement from a Purdue student explaining the impact that involvement with agency has on the student’s life and education. Nominations should be forwarded to Mike Piggott, community relations director, at piggott@purdue.edu by Dec. 16.
Previous winners have been the Hanna Community Center, Food Finders Food Bank and the Wabash Center.
For more information, contact Griffith at 765-494-6838 or jgriff@purdue.edu, or Piggott at 765-494-9386 or piggott@purdue.edu.
