A team of students and staff from Purdue Polytechnic Kokomo worked in the Kokomo community to assist with cleanup efforts after a tornado devastated the area on Aug. 24.

Christopher Anthony, student services coordinator, organized a group of 11 students and two spouses to be part of the tornado relief efforts on Friday (Aug. 26). The group helped clear downed trees and debris, including roofing shingles, roof decking, siding and belongings around the yards of five homes. The volunteers also helped place a tarp to cover large holes in one homeowner's roof.

On Aug. 24, a severe storm system covering much of the central part of the state produced a series of tornadoes. Kokomo and neighboring communities in Howard County, about 50 miles north of Indianapolis, were hardest hit. The Purdue Polytechnic Kokomo campus was closed Aug. 25-26.
