Free Hands-Only CPR training to be offered Oct. 11

The American Heart Association's Hands-Only CPR Mobile Tour is returning to Purdue's West Lafayette campus on Oct. 11, and all Purdue faculty and staff are invited to this training event.

"You'll get a CPR Anytime kit to use during your training, which you’ll then get to take home so that your whole family can learn this important skill," says Trent Klingerman, vice president for human resources. "You’ll learn a life-saving skill and enjoy music and fun while you're doing it."

The Hands-Only CPR Mobile Tour, sponsored by the Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield Foundation, will help participants identify and select songs they can use to learn and remember CPR. Using personalized music as a CPR teaching tool is a new focus of this year’s annual tour as part of efforts to train more people in this life-saving skill and contribute to AHA’s goal of doubling bystander response during a cardiac arrest from 31 to 62 percent by 2020.

Seventy percent of sudden cardiac arrests happen in private or residential settings, AHA says. Statistically speaking, if someone is called on to give CPR in an emergency, the person most likely will be trying to save the life of his or her own child, spouse, parent or friend.

Purdue employees may attend in paid status with their supervisor's approval. To pre-register, go to http://www.cvent.com/d/1vq07d.

The Oct. 11 training will be offered at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. in the North Ballroom of Purdue Memorial Union.

Classes start promptly, and participants should arrive about 10 minutes ahead of time. This is not a CPR certification course.
