Purdue to celebrate third Day of Giving on Wednesday with 'Bigger and Better' Boiler Bash

This year's Boiler Bash -- a student event celebrating Purdue Day of Giving -- will feature an array of activities, including Zorb ball races, big feet racing, big glove boxing and giant tricycle races, in the spirit of the day's theme: "Bigger and Better."

Purdue Day of Giving, the University's annual 24-hour, online fundraising event, will be held midnight to midnight on Wednesday (April 27). Co-hosted by the University Development Office and Purdue Foundation Student Board, Boiler Bash will be from 5 to 9 p.m. at the Córdova Recreational Sports Center. Admission is free.

In addition to "big"-themed games and activities, students can enjoy unique photo opportunities (180-degree photo booth, touch-screen photo booth), music curated by DJ SuSpence, and the fare of a variety of local food vendors. The Purdue Reamer Club will provide rides on the Boilermaker Special to Boiler Bash from 5 to 6:45 p.m.

"The celebration is designed to thank students and the entire Purdue family for being involved in building a bigger, better, stronger university and providing a more affordable education for students," says Kate Jolly, associate director of annual giving and Purdue Day of Giving project manager for the University Development Office.

"In 2015, 9,592 donations from students, alumni, faculty, staff, parents and friends came in from all 50 states and from 37 countries," Jolly says. "This united team effort raised $13.69 million -- setting a record for most dollars raised for higher education through a single-day campaign."

Other Purdue Day of Giving activities include:

* More than 30 hourly challenges, designed to keep Purdue's 59 participating units (academic and nonacademic) competing for cash prizes to add to their donations. Among the challenges are "Largest single donation," "Highest number of donations in a one-hour time span," "Most alumni donors of the last decade in a one-hour  time span" and "Random Purdue Day of Giving selfie." To view a list of all the challenges, visit DayofGiving.Purdue.edu/Leaderboards on Wednesday.

* A competition specifically for student organizations will engage 141 participating organizations in a friendly rivalry and chance for cash prizes. In the spirit of the "Bigger and Better" theme, that's 14 more participating units, 41 more student organizations, and 11 more hourly challenges than last year.

Students also can help in building a better, stronger, more affordable Purdue by stopping by one of PFSB's "Purdue Pay It Forward" stations from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Stadium Mall, the lobby of Beering Hall lobby and the lobby of Lawson Computer Science Building. Students who "Pay It Forward" at one of the stations will receive a wristband for a free surprise. Gifts must be made via credit card and may also be made online by visiting dayofgiving.purdue.edu/PPF.
