Construction is underway on multiple new facilities on Purdue's West Lafayette campus, including the Bechtel Innovation Design Center, the Football Performance Complex and the Flex Lab Facility. In the coming weeks, the amount of construction on campus will increase as the summer construction season begins.

Current construction information is and will continue to be available on the Physical Facilities Construction Notices and Maps webpage at www.purdue.edu/physicalfacilities/constructionmap.

In addition to landscaping, maintenance and other routine summer projects, work will continue on Honors College and Residences and the Wilmeth Active Learning Center. The City of West Lafayette's CSO Relief Interceptor project on River Road will continue through a portion of 2017.

Central campus

Bechtel Innovation Design Center

Construction of the Bechtel Innovation Design Center, a new student project facility, is underway at the northeast corner of Third and Russell streets, and the following travel restrictions will be in place over the summer:

* The easternmost lane of Russell Street will be closed, and the adjacent street parking will be unavailable from Third Street north to Fourth Street.

* Third Street, and both sidewalks parallel to the road, will be closed between Russell and Waldron Streets.

* The north-south alley between Russell and Waldron Streets will be closed.

* The sidewalk east of Russell Street from Third Street north to the alley will be closed.

Honors College and Residences

Work on the new Honors College and Residences facility, which will be open for the upcoming fall semester, continues at the southwest corner of Russell and Third Streets, and the following restrictions will continue to be in place:

* The westernmost lane of traffic on Russell Street is closed between First and Fourth streets.

* Second Street is closed west of Russell Street.

* The westbound lane of First Street is closed from Russell Street to Duhme Drive; the eastbound lane remains open.

* The intersection of First Street and Russell Street is an all-way stop.

* The sidewalk along the west side of Russell Street is closed between First and Third streets.

Russell Street lane restriction

As a result of work on the Bechtel Innovation Design Center and the Honors College and Residences facility, Russell Street is restricted to one lane (the center lane) between Third and Fourth streets.

Wilmeth Active Learning Center and surrounding area

Construction of the Wilmeth Active Learning Center is ongoing, and additional projects in the area will expand the construction zone to include areas near the Class of 1950 Lecture Hall, Stanley Coulter Hall, Wetherill Laboratory of Chemistry, Brown Laboratory of Chemistry and Michael Golden Engineering Laboratories and Shops. Access to buildings in the area will be maintained.

North campus

Football Performance Complex

In order to construct the new Football Performance Complex, a three-level structure adjacent to the north end of Mollenkopf Athletic Center, John R. Wooden Drive will be closed from Tower Drive to Joe Tiller Drive through the end of July 2016, and there will be increased truck traffic along Northwestern Avenue through August 2017.

South campus

Creighton Hall of Animal Sciences and Land O'Lakes Center for Experiential Learning and the Purina Pavilion

Street parking and the sidewalk along the east side of South Russell Street are unavailable due to the construction of the new Creighton Hall of Animal Sciences and Land O'Lakes Center for Experiential Learning, a 128,000-square-foot agricultural and life sciences facility. The site is the northeast corner of Harrison and Russell streets.

Flex Lab Facility

Work on the Flex Lab Facility, a 107,000-square-foot multidisciplinary research facility at the northwest corner of Nimitz Drive and Gates Road, began this spring. Portions of Gates Road and multiple sidewalks in the area will be closed this summer.

Marsteller Street Parking Garage demolition

Due to its age and condition, the Marsteller Street Parking Garage will be demolished this summer. Alternate parking is available at the Wood Street Parking Garage, Harrison Street Parking Garage, Grant Street Parking Garage and the surface parking lots located south of Pao Hall of Visual and Performing Arts and the Dauch Alumni Center. A 148-space surface lot at the garage's location is to open in October.

Off campus

West Lafayette's River Road CSO Relief Interceptor Project

The City of West Lafayette is undertaking a Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Relief Interceptor Project along River Road, from approximately Quincy Street to Ahlers Drive, that will significantly affect travel adjacent to campus. Current construction schedules, maps and detours are available at www.riverroadwl.com.

In addition to the projects listed above, construction on the State Street Redevelopment Project will begin this summer with utilities work along State Street, widening and improvement of Airport Road and the conversion of Russell Street from one-way to two-way.

Pedestrians and motorists should plan ahead, travel cautiously and obey all posted signs when making their way to and across the West Lafayette campus this summer.
