Workshop to focus on caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer's, dementia

Human Resources will host a family-friendly workshop on aging family from noon to 1 p.m. Monday (March 21) in Stewart Center, Room 311.

"Living with Aging Family" will introduce attendees to caring for an elderly family member or friend affected by Alzheimer's disease or dementia. This workshop will be presented by Vanessa Sowders from Westminster Village and will focus on the ethics of being a caregiver and respecting loved one's values while making caregiving decisions. Participants will also get an introduction to information regarding hospice care and advanced directives. Self-identity loss in those with Alzheimer's disease will also be discussed.

Registration is available online and is due Friday (March 18). Limited seats are available; however, as a response to feedback, Human Resources is pleased to make this and future presentations available in WebEx.

Family workshops are open to faculty, staff, students and spouses/same-sex domestic partners. Those attending are encouraged to bring lunch to eat while listening to the presentation. Time for asking questions and networking with other caregivers will be offered.
