Symposium to highlight new Institute for Inflammation, Immunology, and Infectious Disease
Purdue's newly formed Institute for Inflammation, Immunology, and Infectious Disease (PI4D) will hold its first research symposium from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Thursday (March 10) at Mackey Arena's Spurgeon Club.
The event, which is open to faculty, staff, graduate staff and postdoctoral students, will highlight research expertise in the institute's four program areas: infectious disease, control and intervention, imaging and diagnostics, and inflammation and immunology. Remarks will be presented by Richard Kuhn, director of the institute and head and professor of biological sciences; Tomás Díaz de la Rubia, chief scientist and executive director of Discovery Park; and Suresh Garimella, executive vice president for research and partnerships.
Speakers from each institute area will be:
* Imaging and diagnostics: Introduction by Michael Ladisch, Distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Biological Engineering, and keynote by Paul Robinson, the SVM Professor of Cytomics in the College of Veterinary Medicine and professor in the Weldon School of Biomedical Engineering.
* Infectious disease: Introduction by Suresh Mittal, professor of veterinary pathobiology, and keynote by Michael Rossmann, the Hanley Distinguished Professor of Biological Sciences.
* Immunology and inflammation: Introduction by Chang Kim, professor of veterinary pathobiology, and keynote by Ourania Andrisani, professor of basic medical sciences.
* Control and intervention: Introduction by Jean Chmielewski, the Alice Watson Kramer Distinguished Professor of Chemistry, and keynote by Arun Ghosh, the Ian P. Rothwell Distinguished Professor in the departments of Chemistry and Medicinal Chemistry and Molecular Pharmacology.
Each area's presentation also will include short faculty introductions. The symposium agenda is available online.
